These photographs are the work of Fotokids’ photographers and include black and white photos, more recent color digital work, web design and video. All the photos have been taken by the children since the initiation of the project in 1991 when it was known as “Out of the Dump”.  Although black and white photography remains the focus, in 1995 we entered the digital age with our first Mac and Photoshop program.

Included in the gallery are photographs that have been exhibited internationally: Japan, USA, UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Argentina, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, and of course in Guatemala. Students’ photographs have been published and shown in countries throughout the world in newspapers, television and online. (see links for recent articles about us).

In 2001, Reuters Foundation, New York and Giraffe Design Studio, London arranged for exhibits and work experience for Fotokids’ photographers in both cities.  Two of the older students were able to go to London to participate in the exhibit’s opening and do internships in graphic design at Giraffe and Reuters News Agency.

Concurrent with the exhibit at Reuters America, two other students traveled to New York for the opening and a week of cross-cultural exchanges with various New York City high schools. Although emphasis remains on black and white photography, students also work in color and digital photography, web design and video and have won numerous awards for their work.

All photographs are available for sale unless otherwise stated.  The unframed photographs are printed on 11 X 14″ paper.   The prints are valued at US$150 each, a percentage of the proceeds going to the photographer if they are still in the project, and if not, to the educational expenses for other Fotokids’ students.
